Forest Green Kitchen – The Jones’s Kitchen - Cardiff
“This kitchen design was super important to us as it’s the forever home. Paul & Hannah travelled to Cardiff to measure up and get a feel for the space, to really understand how we wanted it to work, they gave us some amazing ideas and even managed to give us our dream island!”
When our clients in Cardiff first sent over their mood boards for their dream green kitchen, we were instantly in awe of the bold choice they were envisioning. Green has always been the go-to colour for bringing ‘the outside in’ so to speak. Timeless and warming, this deep forest hue encompasses various kitchen styles, from your traditional shaker to the ultra-modern true handle less design. Paired beautifully with brass finishes, oak accents and neutral colour palettes, it seamlessly comes together to make a bold choice, become both calming and timeless within your home.
Vision vs practicality
When thinking about design, colour is often the first point of inspiration. Next unfolds the real challenge…practicalities of spatial planning. Our client had a wish list of ideas for their space and were desperate for us to achieve an island. Often an island is at the top of everyone’s vision of a dream kitchen, however not always practical. The space available for this was tight, but we were determined to make this dream a reality for our client. By turning the island to sit vertically within the space this allowed us to create large enough walkways to move comfortably around the kitchen, as well as forming a gentle link between the kitchen and dining area. The island boats seating for up to 4 people, perfect for entertaining guests over a cup of tea…or a few glasses of wine…as well as extra worktop space, cookbook storage and drawer storage, the island has added both practical advantages as well as making it a much more interactive and a social environment for everyone to enjoy.

At The Devon Kitchen Company we think the details of the design is what makes every kitchen unique. Every client is different and wants to achieve different things within their space. Our clients wanted everything tucked away, so the kitchen could be both accessible yet always on show. Behold…the bi-folding dresser. Now this dresser unit isn’t standard, but it should be. It’s the perfect way to hide your microwave, toaster and kettle into one space that now operates as your perfect little breakfast nook within your kitchen. We have seen this become extremely popular over the past year or so with our clients and the beauty of it is that it works with any kitchen style and can be built into most spaces. Whether we are working with a big kitchen or small, this cabinet will transform the way you use your space from day to day.
It's in the details…
Other key elements we considered that we believe set us apart from your mainstream kitchen suppliers, would firstly be the built in open shelving to the right of the hob, to store all your oils and spices whilst keeping them in the prime position for cooking. The bespoke three panelled doors, avoid any door splits when having side by side full height integrated fridge and freezer. Moulded plinth detail at the base of the cabinetry to add the extra traditional detail as well as making the cabinets feel more like, well, furniture.
Finally, worktop is one of the key considerations to any kitchen. If you want something durable, resistant and stunning look no further than quartz. We work closely with an independent stone masonry based in Cornwall to deliver beautiful worktops. Our guys even travelled all the way to Cardiff from St Austell twice in two weeks to complete their full template and fitting service! Here our clients have chosen 30mm Calacatta Moderna Quartz, with a full splashback behind their hob to create a bespoke feature. When choosing your worktop, the options available can make it all feel like a bit of a mind field. Using our free design service we guide you through the process, offering suggestions towards the available finishes and prices. With quartz we often find that large veins look more subtle and discreet on a bigger scale whereas short veins can appear busier.
“This is the second kitchen Paul has designed for us, it’s even better than the first! The design is beautiful but practical, and he’s been able to include everything we wanted/needed. His communication throughout has been great. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.”
